Perhaps no other place in the Philippines radiates so much mystique as Palaui, a small yet fascinating island off the coast of Sta. Ana in the northern province of Cagayan.
Surrounded by white sandy beaches and scenic rugged terrain, and built by howling winds and huge waves, Palaui Island’s best kept secret is its century old lighthouse – Farol de Cabo Engaño, built by the Spaniards in 18th century to guide ships entering and leaving the coastal towns of Sta. Ana and those traversing the Babuyan Channel and Philippine Sea.
Palaui Island holds a special place in my heart, a place I dearly miss. It is quite far, its distance obviously separates me from her. But my vivid memories of Palaui always bridge the gap and fulfill my longing. Memories that will keep Palaui on my mind… always.
