Cape Engaño
The old lighthouse, the roaring waves, the howling wind, the rugged terrain and the rolling hills. No this is not Batanes, this is Cape Engaño in Palaui Island, Cagayan Valley.
Palaui Island is a protected landscape and seascape in the north-easternmost tip of mainland Luzon. It is a small yet beautiful island surrounded by dramatic mix of white and cream sand beaches and rugged cliffs.
The road to Palaui is long yet scenic. But every soul that chooses to experience the island falls victim to its uniquely mystifying charm, myself included. There’s something about Palaui that beckons my senses, a different connection I can hardly distinguish. Was it the lighthouse or the northern wind or the giant waves or the rugged coast or the rolling hills? Whatever it is, one thing is certain – that there exists a small paradise in the north that is worth the long road from home.
