Milford Sound
Fiordland National Park, South Island, New Zealand
A long and winding scenic road with alpine view of the northern Fiordland National Park of New Zealand’s South Island will lead you to this country’s famed and most iconic attraction – the Milford Sound.
Milford Sound or Piopiotahi in Māori language is 16-kilometer long fjord located in the northern part of Fiordland National Park. It is a long narrow inlet surrounded by sheer rock faces rising at 1,200 meters or more on either side. Its most famous peak is Mitre Peak as seen on the center of this snapshot. It rises at 1,692 meters above sea level and considered as the most photographed spot in the sound.
Take a boat cruise on Milford Sound and experience the fascinating and poetic beauty of this divine place. Definitely a “must do” when in South Island!
To best experience Milford Sound and the entire South Island, rent a camper van such as Jucy and go on a road trip to see Christchurch, Lake Tekapo, Queenstown, Dunedin or Mount Cook and all the way to Invercargill and Milford Sound.
