Tinago Falls
Barangay Ditucalan, Iligan City, Lanao del Norte
Tucked in between Barangay Purakan of the town of Linamon and Barangay Ditucalan of Iligan City is Tinago Falls, Lanao del Norte’s prime icon. Geographically speaking, it is still within the vicinity of Iligan City, home to at least twenty-four waterfalls making the moniker “City of Majestic Waterfalls” very fitting.
Tinago Falls is perhaps the most beautiful and among the most prominent (along with Maria Cristina Falls) of all waterfalls of Iligan City. Its name is derived from the Filipino word “tinago” which means “hidden”, because the falls is hidden in a deep ravine which is accessible via the 500-steps winding staircase. Ironically and as oppose to its name, this beautiful spot is no longer hidden as it used to be, in fact it is already an open secret and an identified tourism icon in this part of Mindanao.
